  5. This  is a column  for B.O.S.  owners of the  excellently good  HP 
  6. DeskJet printer.  I understand that there are many people who have 
  7. chosen this popular and well supported printer for their  computer 
  8. as it offers great print quality at a low price.  In this column I 
  9. will  answer questions and provide hints and tips for getting  the 
  10. best out of your DeskJet when using it with an ST.

  12. I own a  DeskJet 500 printer, and usually run it with the GDOS 
  13. printer driver. This is  quite  simple,  installing GDOS using 300 
  14. DPI  fonts  and  the driver, but for pre-DeskJet programs, printing
  15. out  can  be  a  bit of a pain.  I have  got  an  Epson  emulation 
  16. cartridge,  which was previously my dad's,  and he gave the  whole 
  17. lot  to me when he got his LaserJet,  a  brilliant  printer.  This 
  18. makes the DeskJet think it's an Epson, and thus can print out from 
  19. programs which only support the Epson printer.  This cartridge  is 
  20. excellent  and makes life a lot easier,  but if you can't  get  it 
  21. anywhere, don't worry. I have a most excellent little program called
  22. EpsJet,  a software emulator for the DeskJet which makes it  think 
  23. it's  an Epson,  and makes compatability problems a thing  of  the 
  24. past.  As a bonus,  I have put this excellent program onto this 
  25. disk, follow the instructions in the HOW TO EXTRACT ARCHIVES article
  26. and extract EPSJET.TOS and de-archive it. Et voila! Epsjet!

  28. Another  tip of mine is for general inkjet users.  If your  nozzle 
  29. becomes blocked,  I've found that the best way to unblock it is to 
  30. boil some water and place the cartridge over the steam, protecting 
  31. your hands.  Leave it there for about 5-10 seconds and then  wipe 
  32. the nozzles with a tissue and all the dried ink should go.  Please 
  33. note  that  steam can scould your hand easily,  so  take  adequate 
  34. protection  when  doing  this,  you can't blame  me  if  you  burn 
  35. yourself!
